Advocates for connecting the Pennsy Trail from Greenfield to Cumberland are preparing to answer questions in a public informational meeting Jan. 9, but whether the issue will go before the public in a referendum is up in the air.
A group of a dozen proponents met Wednesday morning to talk about how they will address the public on their plans to connect the hiking and biking trail along the old Pennsylvania Railroad bed between Cumberland and Greenfield, bridging a 4.5-mile gap in a project that could cost from $5 million to $6 million.
Hancock County Commissioner Brad Armstrong said proponents will have to gauge community interest at the meeting to determine how aggressively to seek placing a public question on a 2014 primary or general election ballot.
