From the Marshall County Pilot News:
It’s time to start thinking about paying property taxes for 2012, and Marshall County treasurer Debbie VanDeMark wants to make sure county residents know she and her staff is available to help if needed.
“One frequently asked question is people wondering why their tax bill went up,” said VanDeMark. “We can explain what area caused the (increase).”
She added that a higher bill usually results from a change in the property assessment, a change in the tax rate, or a change in deductions.
Property taxes are due in two installments, May 10 and November 13. Those wishing to pay both installments at once are able to do so, and partial payment is also an option.
“Some people don’t realize that you are able to make partial payments,” said VanDeMark. “If you are struggling, you can do monthly payments. Just contact our office.”
Payments can be made through the mail, over the phone, online, or in person. Several banks will also have drop-offs for tax payments: any Lake City Bank, First State Bank in Bourbon, and First Farmers Bank in Culver. These banks will collect payments for two weeks prior to the due date.
The treasurer’s office is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. With questions, call 574-935-8520.
