Star Reports Indiana lawmakers close on budget deals as legislature nears finish line, says Brian Bosma

From the Indianapolis Star:

House Speaker Brian Bosma said the legislature is close to reaching agreement on a new state budget that gives $1 billion in tax cuts over the next two years.

Bosma, R-Indianapolis, said lawmakers hope to end the session on Friday, with a new state budget and agreements on other issues, including education, help for casinos and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Gov. Mike Pence has insisted on a 10 percent income tax cut. Bosma did not indicate that the legislature will go that high, saying the size of the income tax cut is “still under discussion.”
Instead, he focused on the total amount of tax cuts, which likely will include income taxes, inheritance taxes and some business taxes.

Talking to reporters after the lawmakers posed for pictures -- including House Republicans creating their Christmas card photo -- Bosma said the budget “is in the works. We’re making progress and we’ll be out of here in a timely fashion. It’s going to have the largest tax cut I believe in state history, with a billion dollars of tax cuts in this biennium by my count. It’s very significant.”
