The Shelbyville Common Council approved a tax abatement on $900,000 in new equipment for local manufacturer Ten Cate Enbi at Monday's meeting.
The measure will abate a declining percentage of taxes on the new equipment each year for the next 10 years.
Attorney Lee McNeely said the abatement will help the company, which makes rollers and other parts for printers, embrace new technology, match market trends and stay competitive.
"This application for tax abatement is exactly why tax abatements should exist in the state of Indiana," McNeely said.
