South Bend Tribune Reports on "Where Your Tax Money Goes"

From the South Bend Tribune:

The budgets of governments and schools are often large and complicated; accessing the information can be difficult and time consuming.
...

Indiana has an online database that now lists salaries of most public employees who work for counties, cities, townships, public schools, public colleges and many other governmental units. Called the Indiana Gateway, it's at: gateway.ifionline.org.

The site includes extensive data on budgets and finance.

However, you won't find salaries for Indiana's governor, state legislators, judges and other state agency workers listed on that site. Those state workers are listed on the Indiana Transparency Portal website: www.in.gov/itp.

The Indiana Gateway also is accessible from the Transparency Portal by clicking on the "Local Government" link on the main page.

Here is a sample of some salaries you'll find.

Indiana Gov. Michael Pence: $111,687

Indiana state Rep. B. Patrick Bauer, D-South Bend: $57,330 for work in the House; $100,572 as an Ivy Tech State College administrator.

St. Joseph County Sheriff Michael Grzegorek: $127,280.

South Bend's Morris Performing Arts Center Director Dennis Andres: $75,870

South Bend Airport Regional Airport Director Michael Daigle: $124,953.

The most recent salaries reported for the state officials are budgeted for 2013. The salaries listed from local budgets were those paid in 2012.
