Three companies want to spend a total of about $768,000 on expansion projects expected to create 10 full-time jobs.
According to applications for tax phase-ins (formerly called abatements) to be considered Tuesday by City Council, Midwest Salt of Fort Wayne would create five full-time and one part-time job by investing $40,000 in a vacant building at 4528 Hillegas Road. The company makes a variety of salt products and the average salary of the new jobs would be about $38,800.
Vermeer of Fort Wayne, meanwhile, plans to create three full-time and one part-time job through a $500,000 expansion of its facility at 3310 W. Coliseum Blvd. The addition will allow the company to accommodate its complete line of recycling grinders, compost turners and other products. The average salary of the new jobs would be $51,250.
And GCG Industries, a machine shop, would create two full-time jobs through a $223,900 project at 4650 Newaygo Road, with the new jobs paying an average of $25,000.
Phase-ins temporarily reduce the taxes owed on new buildings or equipment.
