Chesterton Tribune Reports Porter County Property Tax Bills Out

From the Chesterton Tribune:

The Porter County Treasurer’s office announced that spring property tax bills have been mailed out and will be arriving in mailboxes this week.

Treasurer Mike Bucko said on the back of the tax coupon the taxpayers receive are instructions on how they may pay their bill.

Payments can be done in four ways Ð by mail, in person at the Treasurer’s office, online atwww.porterco.org (click on the “Pay Your Tax Bill” link on the right side of the home web page), or by using the drop box at the County Administration Building at 155 Indiana Ave. in Valparaiso.

Make checks payable to Porter County Treasurer.

Spring installments of tax bills are due on Friday, May 10, according to state law. The fall installment is due on Nov. 12.

A 5% penalty applies if no prior delinquencies are on the bill and it is paid within 30 days of the due date. A 10% penalty applies if there are prior unpaid delinquencies on the bill or if the bill is paid more than 30 days after the due date. The penalty must be included with tax payment.

On-Time Tax payments must have a legible US Post Office cancellation or a US Post Office postage mark dated on or before the due date. Also mailing to a wrong address or not receiving a tax bill isn’t a reason for having a late payment penalty waived.

If your address has changed, do not send address changes with your tax bill payment. Notify the Auditor’s office at (219)-465-3445.

This is the fourth consecutive year that the County has been on schedule for on-time tax bills. The County Assessor’s office performed ratio studios and configured assessments while the County Auditor’s office applied exemptions, deductions or abatements to determine the net assessed values.
