The state recently released certified property tax rates for the 17 taxing districts in Jackson County, and property owners in all but six of those districts will see higher rates on their bills this spring.
Combine that with news that assessed values went up on about 80 percent of Jackson County properties and you have a recipe for higher tax bills this spring.
That’s because property taxes are based upon the tax rate and a property’s assessed valuation, which is the value assigned to a property to calculate property taxes.
