From the Brazil Times:
During the Clay County Council meeting Monday, the council voted to retain the current amounts for both the wheel tax and surtax -- $25 for an excise surtax and $40 for an annual wheel tax.
The council had between now and June to either retain, decrease or eliminate the taxes for next year.
The tax monies come in each day and are dropped into the Highway Department Fund, according to Auditor Mary Jo Alumbaugh, who said her office is working to track all the money to make sure it is used only for road materials and improvements.
Ordinance No. 10-2012, which details the new tax laws, took effect Jan.1, 2013. Since then, Clay County has brought in a total of $59,794.45 with $18,769.40 coming from the wheel tax and $41,025.05 coming from the surtax.

Last year, based on the number of vehicles in Clay County, the Clay County Commissioners estimated revenue of $678,000 for the first year.
"This year is really going to be a learning experience for all of us," Commissioner President Paul Sinders said. "Everything from the past has been projected numbers based on the amount of vehicles in Clay County. We anticipate the number of vehicles to stay the same, so that number should be realistic. It would be great if it would increase, but you don't know if that will happen."
The commissioners plan to split the yearly revenue so that each district would receive $226,000. By those calculations, Sinders said each district could see improvement for up to 20 miles of roads per year.
"That is a tentative number," Sinders said. "Basically, the roads I was looking at may take more than a single chip and seal. It may take a double chip and seal, so that would reduce the number of roads we can improve. But the ones we will work on should be much better roads."
