Tribune Reports Tipton County Misses Deadline to File Finance Report

From the Kokomo Tribune:

Tipton is among four Indiana counties that failed to file their Annual Fiscal Report by the deadline.

Missing the state deadline could have an impact on the county’s 2014 budget and property tax rates that fund the operation of county government.

The reports are supposed to be turned over to the Indiana State Board of Accounts by March 1 every year. Joining Tipton County in missing the deadline were Grant, Marion and Martin counties.

“It is a lengthy report for the counties to file,” Tammy White of the State Board of Accounts said. “It is all the data from the different funds including receipts and disbursements, investment balances. It details all the receipts and disbursements from state and federal grants and any financial assistance provided to not-for-profit organizations and debt information.”

White said the per capita information is used by the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance (DLGF).

“Without the information, the DLGF can’t create a budget or tax rates,” White said. “It could impact the 2013-pay-2014 property tax rate.”
