Tribune: Mishawaka Approves Abatement for WellPet

From the South Bend Tribune:

Yes for WellPet
The council also voted 9-0 to approve a tax abatement on a $2 million piece of equipment that WellPet wants to install in its pet food factory at 1011 W. 11th St.
The plant’s controller, Michelle Tatgenhorst, said installation of the equipment could begin in May and be completed later this year.
It would add six jobs to the plant’s 91 current jobs and would regrind and make use of about 1.5 million pounds of animal byproduct per year that now goes to the landfill.
The five-year abatement, with a decreasing percentage each year, could save the company a total of more than $75,000 in taxes during those years while it ends up paying roughly $126,000, although it could vary based on assessments, the city’s staff estimates.
