Jackson County’s four school districts lost $345,901 in funding this year because of property tax caps.
Medora Community School Corp. accounted for nearly a third of that loss, but the tiny school corporation located in the southwestern part of the county recently received a three-year reprieve from the lawmakers.
House Enrolled Act 1062, which was signed into law by Gov. Mike Pence, allows 92 districts losing more than 10 percent of their property tax funds because of caps to continue allocating losses across five main areas of spending: debt service, pension debt, bus transportation, bus replacement and capital projects.
