IndyPolitics.Org Reports that Statehouse Leaders to Offer Their Own Tax Plan

The leaders of the Indiana House and Senate they will off up their own alternative plans to Governor Mike Pence’s proposal to eliminate the business personal property tax.

That was one the major announcements out of the mostly ceremonial opening day of the 2014 legislative session which had been impacted by bad weather

The Governor says the proposal is needed to help Indiana with job creation, however local governments are worried it could cost them more than $1 billion and a legislative study says eliminating the tax could result in a property tax increase if there is no replacement revenue.

The two were also were also asked about the fate of the marriage amendment this session, as well as what might happen with efforts to expand early childhood education.

Due to the weather the Senate had to delay its start because it did not have a quorum.  The House barely reached a quorum with only 67 members present due to the weather.
