Times: Dyer Starts Fund for Share of County Income Tax

From the Northwest Indiana Times:

The Town Council has established funds to receive the town's share of money from the new Lake County income tax.

State law requires communities to establish an economic development income tax fund and public safety fund for the money.

The Lake County Council last year approved three forms of the tax: a 1 percent county adjusted gross income tax; a 0.25 percent public safety income tax; and a 0.25 percent county economic development income tax.

Collection of the 1.5 percent tax began in October.

Dyer's estimated share of county economic development income tax funds is $326,000, an amount it will be receiving yearly. The public safety money has been estimated at $282,000.
