The Little Nashville Opry came a bit closer to being resurrected this week when the owner, Scott Wayman, took a step toward obtaining a 10-year tax abatement for the property.
The Brown County Council Monday unanimously approved a preliminary resolution declaring the property a redevelopment zone.
Wayman, who owns Wayman’s Furniture and Appliances in Martinsville, purchased the Opry property at auction in April 2012 following a 2009 arson fire that destroyed the building.

At next month’s meeting, Wayman said the council could vote to pass the resolution, then move on the tax abatement. By then, he hopes to have some hard numbers on the cost of the plant.
“That tax abatement will help us move forward with construction,” he said.
