Courier Reports Milton Hears First Reading of New Budget

From the Madison Courier:

Milton City Commissioners heard the first reading of an ordinance for the 2013-2014 budget during a meeting Thursday.

The budget includes $155,019 in the city's general fund and allows $4,129 in the budget for park funds. Nearly $1.03 million will be in the budget for the water department maintenance fund.

Sewer department maintenance funds are estimated to be $175,500 for the fiscal year with over $62,000 budgeted for the sewer maintenance reserve fund.

The upcoming year's budget also shows over $54,000 for municipal state aid road funds and $7,636 in the local government economic assistance funds.

The commissioners will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. Monday for the second reading of the budget ordinance. The ordinance must be approved and published before the beginning of the new fiscal year on July 1.

During the meeting, city commissioners looked at options for new gateway signs to Milton. The signs will be placed on U.S. 421 and KY 36 near the city limits.

Mayor Denny Jackson said the signs will not cost the city any money. The state agreed to pay for the new signage, up to $16,600.

City commissioners discussed signage surrounded by stone. Jackson encouraged commissioners at previous meetings to look at the sign at the dental offices in Milton and the signage in Hanover for ideas of what the city might be able to create.
