Star Reports Hostess Seeks Tax Break to Reopen Indianapolis Factory

The new Hostess Brands is looking to reopen the doors of its shuttered Eastside factory and fill more than 100 jobs, but to get production lines whirring again the company is requesting a six-figure property tax break.

In its request, the maker of Twinkies and other snacks said the tax abatement, about $500,000 over eight years, would help offset the estimated $10 million in investment costs it would take to get the facility up and running by early July.

The reopening of the plant would create at least 145 new jobs, according to the request before Marion County’s Metropolitan Development Commission.
