Journal & Courier Reports Hat World Offered Incentives for Investment in Zionsville

Hat World announced plans today to invest $21.77 million to expand its corporate headquarters and distribution operations in Indiana, and add up to 758 jobs through 2025.

Hat World, doing business as LIDS Sports Group, manufactures apparel and operates retail stores.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp., offered Hat World up to $3.4 million in tax credits and up to $300,000 in training grants, the state announced in a news release, which will be awarded after Hoosiers are hired. The IEDC also will fund up to $250,000 in grants for infrastructure assistance.

“Today’s announcement continues to prove why Indiana is the best state in the nation to start or grow a business,” Gov. Mike Pence said in a prepared statement. “Hat World took hats to new heights here in the Hoosier State when it turned a creative idea into a business that today can be found in malls across the nation.”

Zionsville also is considering a tax abatement and incentives.

"Zionsville could not be happier regarding this announcement. We are very proud that Hat World will call Zionsville its home,” said Jeff Papa, president of the Zionsville Town Council, in a prepared statement.

Hat World will build and equip a 150,000-square foot office in the Creekside Corporate Park in Zionsville and lease more than 600,000 in warehouse space in Indianapolis. The company currently leases 225,000 square feet of space in Park 100 and another 285,000 square feet on the Northwestside.

The company will hire 300 administrative positions in Zionsville in late 2015 and in 2016, according to the news release. The company also plans to hire manufacturing, distribution and warehouse associates in Indianapolis in the third quarter of this year.
