Tribune Reports Emu Solutions Seeks Incentives for Investment in South Bend

From the South Bend Tribune:

A hardware and software company based at Innovation Park at Notre Dame is seeking incentives to establish a headquarters at Ignition Park, the city's state-certified tech park south of downtown.

Emu Solutions is asking that the city commit $500,000 in Airport Tax Increment Finance funds for the purchase of two servers to be leased back to the company for a nominal fee over three years, through 2017.

In exchange, Emu would pledge to create 25 new jobs with wages ranging from $20 to $70 per hour for technical staff, $20 to $75 per hour for managerial staff and $15 to $30 per hour for administrative staff.

The company also would pledge to spend about $4 million on space and equipment at Ignition Park, possibly inside of a new, 43,000-square-foot multi-tenant building set to be constructed there sometime this spring.

At the end of the three-year lease period, and upon proof that Emu has met its commitments in terms of investment and job creation, the city would then sell the servers back to the company for $1.

At its meeting Thursday, the Redevelopment Commission will consider a request by the Department of Community Investment to go ahead and draft a development agreement with Emu.
