The Concord Community Schools board will consider a referendum in its regular meeting Monday, Jan. 13, according to the meeting agenda.
It’s listed as a “General Fund Operating Referendum” on the agenda.
On Monday, board members will either approve or reject a referendum resolution saying they will seek a tax levy of up to $0.405 per $100 of assessed property value.
For a home worth $100,000, that would mean up to $405 in extra property taxes over the property tax cap. The referendum would be for a period of seven years, from 2015 to 2021, and voters would see it on the ballot in the May primary election.
In December, Concord Superintendent Wayne Stubbs said the school district is the eighth most impacted by property tax cap losses in the state. It has lost more than $10 million during the past three years, and stands to lose 68 percent of property tax revenue in 2014.
Stubbs was not available for comment Friday after the school board meeting agenda was released.
Concord becomes the third school district in Elkhart County to seek answers for funding shortages with a referendum, after Goshen and Elkhart.
The Concord school board meeting is open to the public. The meeting is at 7 p.m. Monday at the Concord Education Center, 59040 Minuteman Way.
