From the Anderson Herald-Bulletin:
Before being able to expand a large consolidated tax increment financing district, the city’s economic development department has to get approval from several government bodies.
On Tuesday, the Anderson Plan Commission voted 7-0 to accept the proposal, three weeks after the Anderson Redevelopment Commission approved it.
Next, the proposal will go before the City Council for consideration at its next meeting, at 7 p.m. June 14. And if it passes that step, the proposal will go back to the Redevelopment Commission for final approval.

The city has two TIF districts, including a consolidated one that spans and connects different areas of the city and brings in $6.6 million annually.
The proposal allows that district to expand to westside properties that need improvements to make them more desirable to companies that may consider moving or expanding to Anderson.

The first area that could be added is the commercial land along Nichol Avenue, between Park Road and Raible Avenue, including the properties with Great Taste China Buffet and Best Way Cleaners, and the former Kentucky Fried Chicken and Hardees.
The second area that could be added includes the former Guide Corp. properties along Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and 32nd Street.
The final section that could be added is Orchard Park, 900 acres of mostly agricultural area west of MLK between 53rd and 67th streets that could serve industrial purposes.
