From the Terre Haute Tribune Star:
The New Goshen Fire Protection District could soon expand to include Sandford.
Vigo County Auditor Tim Seprodi told the Vigo County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday that the fire district had enough eligible signatures from landowners to support the expansion.
There were 139 of 270 eligible signatures that signed a petition to be included in the fire protection district, which levies a property tax to collect funds for fire protection, equipment and training.
Terry Modesitt, attorney for the fire protection district, said residents of Sandford asked the fire district about six months ago to be included in the district as their fire department faced diminishing financial resources.
Commissioners accepted the petition, which under state law moves the issue to a public hearing. The hearing has not yet been scheduled. Once a hearing is held, commissioners will vote to either deny or approve expansion of the fire protection district.
The new district would not include Shepardsville, which is continuing its own fire protection, Modesitt said.
