From the Madison Courier:
The Milton city
commissioners discussed raising the city property tax rate at their
meeting Thursday.
The tax rate currently is 15
cents per $100 of assessed value, but there is a possibility the Milton city
commission could raise it to generate up to 4 percent more revenue without a
pubic hearing.
The commissioners decided to look at
specific figures showing how much revenue could be raised by each increase in
the property tax rate before they made any decision. Bills are sent out
around September, so it was determined that the council would have to make a
decision and have the first and second reading of an ordinance changing the
tax rate before the beginning of the fiscal year, which is July 1.
The council tabled the matter until the next
scheduled meeting June 14.
