Economic Development News

From the Indianapolis Business Journal:

Indianapolis-based Hahn Systems LLC, a supplier of construction and industrial tools, announced Tuesday morning that it plans to add 20 jobs by 2016 as part of a $900,000 expansion.

The company said the investment will go toward purchasing and equipping a 27,000-square-foot facility at 6312 Southeastern Ave. on the city's southeast side. Hahn's current address is 5762 W. 74th St.

The new building will house the company’s Southeastern Supply Co. division, which is expected to be operational by June. Hahn Systems has 50 employees and has begun hiring for additional sales, customer service and delivery positions.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. said it will provide Hahn Systems up to $140,000 in performance-based tax credits and up to $20,000 in training grants based on the company's job-creation plans. The city of Indianapolis approved additional tax abatements.

From the South Bend Tribune:

A Michigan City food manufacturer plans to add up to 51 full-time jobs and expand its operations.

Hearthside Holdco LLC, which does business as Hearthside Food Solutions, will invest $6 million to renovate and expand its 180,000-square-foot plant at 502 W. U.S. 20 in Michigan City. The company will boost the size of the plant by 8,600 square feet and add 50 parking spaces.
...
The company, a manufacturer of grain-based snack foods and baked goods, operates 13 facilities in six states with more than 5,000 employees. It acquired the Michigan City facility in 2010, where it currently employs more than 400 and runs three shifts. It plans to begin hiring additional machine operators in March.

The company also plans to install a new line of equipment -- for producing a cracker-based product -- which is expected to be operational this spring. The rest of the infrastructure should be completed by 2016.

It helped that the city and state offered the company incentives to expand, Melville said. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. offered Hearthside up to $200,000 in conditional tax credits and up to $100,000 in training grants based on the company's job creation plans.

These tax credits are performance-based, meaning the company cannot claim the incentives until Hoosiers are hired and the incentives are then prorated based on the number of hires.

Michigan City also approved an additional tax abatement.
