The Lake County elections board has scheduled early voting to begin April 8 for a referendum on Munster school financing.
Officials of the School Town of Munster are asking registered voters living in Munster to raise taxes 19.9 cents per $100 of assessed valuation. They said this is needed to prevent significant cutbacks in school operations.
Voting can begin in person 8:30 a.m. April 8 at the elections board offices in the administration building of the Lake County Government Center, 2293 N. Main St., Crown Point. Early voting hours in Crown Point will continue 8:30 a.m to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Saturday hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 27 and May 4.
Early voting will be offered in Munster beginning at 10 a.m. April 22 at Munster Town Hall, 1005 Ridge Road. Early voting hours in Munster will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Saturday voting hours are 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 27 and May 4.
Early voting will end at noon May 6 at both locations.
Election Day voting will take be from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 7 at 13 polling locations in Munster.
The polling places include: Eads Elementary School, Munster High School, Munster Fire Station 2, Munster Town Hall, Wilbur Wright Middle School, Carmelite Hall, Elliot Elementary School, Frank Hammond Elementary School, Munster Community Social Center, Westminster Presbyterian Church, Fairmeadow Church of the Nazarene, Centennial Park and the Munster branch of the Lake County Public Library.
