Vanderburgh County competed since last year with communities across the Ohio River in Kentucky and with some in Illinois, but it finally succeeded in wooing over the global DSI Underground Systems to open a fabricating facility in the Vanderburgh Industrial Park.

The announcement was made jointly by Deborah Dewey, president of GAGE, and Marsha Abell, president of the Vanderburgh County Commissioners.
The project is pending final approval by the commissioners on June 5.
DSI is a global market leader in the design, development, production and supply of underground products and systems. It is located in more than 95 countries and has more than 2,100 employees worldwide.

DSI expects to create 44 jobs with an average wage of $22.50 per hour.
The economic impact on the community, resulting from the new jobs and investment, will total in excess of $141 million over the next 10 years, officials estimated.
The local plant will fabricate raw steel material into roof bolts, plates and other products for the mining industry.

DSI has begun preliminary work on the industrial park’s former Tenneco building at 5400 Foundation Drive, off Indiana 57 and Interstate 164.
DSI expects to start operations in late June or early July.
The VIP building has been vacant for a little more than two years, since Tenneco, a builder of vehicle exhaust systems, lost its contract with Toyota Indiana and moved out.
The building has around 25,000 square feet of space, which Greg Wathen, president and chief executive officer of the Economic Coalition of Southwest Indiana, said on average is a little small for most industries, but will be perfect for DSI.
Because of its expected impact on the community, DSI is being awarded a 10-year Tax Phase-In from Vanderburgh County on its personal property investment of approximately $1.3 million, which is expected to be spent mostly on manufacturing equipment.
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. has offered DSI a Skills Enhancement Grant of $50,000 and EDGE (Economic Development for A Growing Economy) tax credits totaling $350,000 over a 10-year period.
Kinnett said details for applying for a job with DSI will be announced after June 5.
