Monroe County residents with the highest tax rates saw their taxes decrease this year, though others have seen their taxes climb slightly.
Residents of Richland Township within the Bloomington city limits saw the highest tax rate in the county, with taxes at $2.2895 per $100 of assessed value, down from $2.371 a year ago. Properties in Ellettsville within Bean Blossom Township had the second highest tax rate at $2.2131 per $100, and properties in Ellettsville in Richland Township had the third highest rate at $2.2100 per $100.
Tax districts in the Richland-Bean Blossom Community School Corp. have had higher tax rates for the past few years as the school district repays two $10 million bonds for renovations and repairs to school buildings.
Last year, all other 15 tax districts had tax rates under $2 per $100 of assessed value. But this year, tax units that include the city of Bloomington — which is divided between the Bloomington Township, Perry Township, Van Buren Township and Richland Township — had tax rates higher than $2 per $100.
Washington Township had the lowest tax rates in Monroe County for the second year, at $1.1929 per $100.
