The Duneland School Corp. expects to collect less money than originally planned from last year's successful tax increase referendum, but the superintendent said there will be no shortfall.
The infusion of new money will allow the district to bring back eight teachers for the elementary and junior and senior high school levels, said Superintendent Dirk Baer.
"That was a big step in the right direction," he said.
The district originally had intended to collect 22 cents per $100 in assessed valuation, but scaled back to 20.5 cents after learning none of the money would be lost to tax increment finance districts or tax abatements, Baer said.
The district expects to collect $5 million to $5.1 million, as compared to the initial figure of $5.6 million, he said.
A drop in property assessments also fueled the drop in revenue, Baer said.
Voters narrowly approved the tax increase last May by 50.95 percent of the vote. The first round of revenue from that increase is expected to arrive in June or July.
The property tax increases approved through the referendums are valid for seven years and are outside the tax caps.
