NWI Reports Lake County Taxpayers Get Extended Hours as Friday's Property Tax Deadline Approaches

Lake County Treasurer John Petalas said his office will have extended hours to accommodate last-minute taxpayers.

Petalas said property owners can bring in their spring tax installments from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday to his offices in the Lake County Government Complex, 2293 N. Main St., Crown Point, or the satellite county courthouses at 401 Broadway in Gary and 232 Russell St. in Hammond.

Those who aren't disputing their taxes can avoid lines be paying at these banks: American Savings FSB, Centier Bank, Chase Bank, Citizens Financial Bank, DeMotte State Bank, First Financial Bank, BMO Harris Bank N.A., Horizon Bank, Lake Federal Bank FSB, MainSource Bank, Peoples Bank and Tech Credit Union.

He said foot traffic in his offices has been heavier than last year as Friday's deadline for on-time tax payments approaches.

He said his office will accept mail-in payments as long as the envelope is postmarked by Friday.
