Jackson County wage earners could see a tax refund or credit as the result of Gov. Mike Pence vetoing a House of Representatives bill Thursday.
The veto could cost the county up to $2.1 million if Pence’s veto of House Enrolled Act 1546 is not overridden this summer, including an estimated $700,000 already collected from taxpayers.
The bill would have allowed Jackson and Pulaski counties to keep income tax collections after their taxing authority had expired. Jackson County had sought to keep the tax money and to renew authority for the tax through 2020.
