North Wells Community Schools' Referendum Passes

From WANE.com:

Norwell High School will get a near $15 million makeover. Taxpayers in the Northern Wells Community Schools district approved the project at the ballot box Tuesday.

After the votes were tallied, 2,319 voters approved the project, compared to the 1,265 voters who said no.

"We are very pleased that the voters were on the side of renovation," said Dr. Scott Mills, the superintendent of Northern Wells Community Schools, said.

The money will go towards improving the Norwell High School's heating and cooling system. School officials have said the system needed to be replaced because CO2 levels inside the school were too high .

Mills said Tuesday night that with voters approval, the work should keep extend the building for 40 years. He also believes all the other schools in the district are in good shape, and the district will not have to ask for another referendum for a very long time.

With the referendum passing, taxpayers in the district with a $200,000 home can expect to pay close to $154 more a year in taxes.
