The wheel tax and surcharge tax increase thought to be headed for LaGrange County residents is not going to happen. The state had originally announced a reduction in revenue for all counties that did not charge their residents the maximum allowable tax.
Currently LaGrange charges 2 percent and would have had to raise it to 10 percent to maintain its fair share of revenue from the state. The revenue generated from these two taxes will bring in an estimated $620,000 for 2014. Commission president Jac Price announced the change at the commissioner’s Monday meeting in LaGrange.
