A Wayne County commissioners’ deed sale Tuesday brought in $106,700 for the county, officials reported Wednesday.
Board of commissioners president Denny Burns told the Wayne County Council on Wednesday that the county sold 47 of 52 properties, adding that the money will go into the county’s general fund.
“It was a very successful sale,” Burns said. “It’s the commissioners’ responsibility to get these properties back on the tax rolls so that all property owners will pay a little less.”
The deed sale lets a buyer purchase a property free and clear even though the properties have delinquent property taxes owed or other liens.
They have been through a county tax sale and a lien sale in which the owner of a property that is purchased has one year to pay delinquent taxes and liens and redeem the property.
Prior to Tuesday’s sale, a judge has removed all delinquent taxes and liens from the properties so Tuesday’s sale was final. The county’s next tax sale is Oct. 3.
