From the La Porte Herald-Angus:
Only two of the five businesses asking for continuance of their tax abatements showed any employment growth during a La Porte City Council meeting last night.
During the meeting, B&B Manufacturing showed it had created 70 jobs, well beyond the 35 it promised, while Alpha Baking created 21 new jobs instead of the estimated 15, as it proposed in its statement of benefits to the city.
But employers ATI Casting service had only 131 employed instead of the estimated 257, while American Signature had only 78 of its 157 expected employees. American Renolit also had a decreased number of employees reported, but the exact figure wasn't available.
All the businesses met, or were progressing with, their investment goals.
...
The council certified the compliance of all five companies, noting the economic hardships that have prevented several of them from meeting their goals.
