Star Press Reports Developer Got $200,000 From South Carolina for Same Project Delaware County Supported

From the Muncie Star-Press:

A South Carolina businessman who’s receiving $650,000 in loans and facility improvements to build a rolling power station and create hundreds of jobs in Delaware County received $200,000 for the same project just two years ago in South Carolina.

Gary Dannar told The Star Press that this spring he repaid the loan from SC Launch, a South Carolina economic development organization that loaned $200,000 in 2011 for his Mobile PowerStation vehicle. The repayment of the loan was confirmed Monday by an SC Launch spokesman.

The only thing produced in South Carolina as a result of the $200,000 loan, Dannar acknowledged, was the prototype vehicle shown to some officials in Delaware County.

“The project was building the concept vehicle,” Dannar said Monday. “$200,000 will not get you into production. The $200,000 is to prove the viability of the product.”

Other than confirming that the loan was repaid, SC Launch officials didn’t return several calls made over a week-long period by The Star Press. Dannar said he didn’t believe South Carolina officials felt cheated that production didn’t begin and jobs were not created there, where the initial $200,000 was provided.
