WTRE Reports Residents Sign Remonstrance Petition for Public Hearing on Proposed Cumulative Cap Tax Rate Increase in Greensburg

From WTRE:

Department of Local Government Finance has set August 7th at 9:15 AM at Greensburg City Hall Council Chambers as the date for a public hearing in regards to the ordinance reestablishing the city Cumulative Cap Tax rate.

At this hearing, the Department will accept written and verbal testimony from interested persons. After the hearing, the DLGF will certify approval, disapproval, or modification of the proposal.

It was on Friday that concerned Greensburg resident Hershel Houk delivered a remonstrance petition to the Decatur County Auditors office against the city of Greensburg's proposal to raise the Cum Cap Tax rate, which is based on property tax. 84 signatures were verified. Additional signatures were submitted on Monday by the noon deadline, but the auditor's office did not have to verify those as property owners in the district, since 50 was all that was needed to result in a hearing for taxpayers.
