Daily Journal Reports Few Taxpayers Get Relief on Appeal in Johnson County

From the Johnson County Daily Journal:

Nearly 4,000 taxpayers questioned the updated value of their properties this year, but few saw those appeals result in a reduction.

About half the county’s taxpayers had the values of their homes or businesses increase this year with a reassessment that updated the value of all properties.

The county received a total of 3,976 appeals, four times as many as in a typical year. Taxpayers typically request an appeal if the value of their home, farmland or business jumps, because higher values could mean the property owner will end up paying more in taxes, the county assessor said.
