Funding for Wastewater Treatment Plant in Millersburg to come from Tax Increment Financing Districts

From the Elkhart Truth:

The town of Millersburg is a step closer to making $440,000 in repairs and improvements to its wastewater treatment plant.

The Elkhart County Plan Commission recommended approval Thursday to allow the town to use funds generated by two tax increment financing districts to pay for the project. The improvements would allow the plant to become more energy efficient and handle more flow in the future.

Part of the funding for the project would come from the Millersburg I TIF District created in 2002. The district will be expiring next year, so the town plans to use the district’s remaining balance.

The remaining expenses of the wastewater treatment plant project would be paid for out of the Millersburg II TIF District, the former Carriage RV complex.

Before moving forward with the project, the town will need approval from the Elkhart County Board of Commissioners with the plan finalized by the Elkhart County Redevelopment Commission.
