IBJ Reports Gordmans Seeking Credits for Investment in Hendricks County

From the Indianapolis Business Journal:

Omaha, Neb.-based Gordmans Inc., a discount apparel and home décor retailer, announced Thursday morning that it plans to spend $37.5 million to open a distribution center in Hendricks County, creating 250 jobs by 2017.

The company said the investment will go toward constructing and equipping a 545,000-square-foot facility in Clayton, a town west of Plainfield.

Founded in 1915, Gordmans operates 83 stores in 18 states, including five in Indiana. They are in Avon, Evansville, Fort Wayne, Lafayette and Mishawaka.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. said it will provide Gordmans up to $1.1 million in performance-based tax credits. Hendricks County approved additional property tax abatements.

Gordmans plans to open 10 stores this year, which will expand its store count by almost 40 percent since 2010.
