La Porte County Treasurer Nancy Hawkins gave an update on the tax situation and said she, the auditor and the assessor went to an assessment reconciliation meeting in Indianapolis on Tuesday to make a tentative calendar for the upcoming bills for the taxpayers in the county.
Hawkins said the 2011 pay 2012 reconciled tax bill is projected to be sent out some time midsummer, preferably in June. As far as this upcoming year, Hawkins said they will send out one provisional tax bill in the fall, most likely in October that will be due Dec. 10.
She said they have reached the goal of sending out the 2010 pay 2011 tax bill that was sent out last week.
Commissioner Dr. Vidya Kora suggested setting up an informational meeting for the public to attend and learn how to manage their taxes. Hawkins agreed to look into the opportunity of a public information session with the involvement of the auditor and assessor as well.
