From the Fort Wayne News-Sentinel:
Allen County Treasurer Sue Orth displays the automated teller that will be able to accept property tax payments by cash or check as early as next week outside her office in the Rousseau Centre. The $23,000 kiosk, believed to be the first of its kind in the nation, was developed specifically for Allen County by F&E Check Protector Co. of Northfield, Ohio, and will be accessible via phone or computer and will be able to look up specific properties and, eventually, process credit and debit cards and give change to the penny if necessary. The machine will also be programmed to detect counterfeit currency, and print a receipt after payment. Orth, who will personally help taxpayers learn how to use the machine, said she hopes the technology will eventually make payment easier for property owners and less stressful for her employees, reducing the need for part-time employees during tax season. Payments will also continue to be accepted through current methods, such as in-person, through the mail and at most banks.
