Times Reports Council Approves St. John Budgets

From the Northwest Indiana Times:

Budgets for 2014 have been approved by the Town Council in accordance with state statute.

The council OK’d a town budget of $5,285,901, an increase of $169,393 over the 2013 figures. That includes $4 million for the general fund; $20,000 for the police pension fund; $170,000 for the parks and recreation department and $145,000 for cumulative capital development.

A $292,425 budget was passed for the St. John Waterworks District, up $77,076 from this year. The council also approved a 2014 budget of $302,653 for the town’s sanitary district.

The maximum property tax levy increase for 2014 reflected in these budgets is 2.6 percent, according to documents provided by Sherry Sury, St. John clerk-treasurer.

The Town Council held a public hearing, which drew no remonstrators. The 2014 budgets were also submitted to Lake County as required.

St. John’s budgets have now been submitted to the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance.

The actual amount of what the DLGF will approve for 2014 won’t be known until February.
