The deadline is
looming for St. Joseph County property owners with unpaid taxes to avert having
their properties certified as eligible for the county’s tax sale.
Owners of any real property parcel with delinquent taxes, penalties or fees from the 2011 spring installment deadline must make payments to the county treasurer’s office by 4:30 p.m. Friday. The office is in the County-City Building in South Bend.
If property owners don’t make payments by Friday, their properties will be certified for the tax sale, and tax sale fees will be attached to the property.
The county’s property tax sale is scheduled for Sept. 20 on the fourth floor of County-City Building.
To remove a property from the certified tax sale list, all payments must be made in cash or with certified funds for the full amount owed. Sept. 19 is the deadline to remove a property from the tax sale.
