The Shelbyville Common Council heard good news Monday about the area's manufacturing industry.
The council reviewed and approved several statement of compliances which are yearly updates on tax abatements. They also approved three new tax abatements
The representatives from the factories who appeared for the complaince statements and new abatements said they're growing and hiring people.
Steve Schrumpf, a Shelbyville attorney representing Ryobi Die Casting and Yushiro Manufacturing America, said that Ryobi is going to open six new lines, will expand three buildings and has 50 job openings. Yushiro has grown this year, he said, and expects to grow next year.
The council approved 5-0 statements of benefits for Ryobi and Yuma and a tax abatement on about $1.6 million in new real estate for Ryobi and about $580,000 in equipment for Yushiro.

Brewer Investment, Pilkington North America, Plastic Moldings Co. and Ten Cate Enbi also had statements of compliance approved for past abatements.
Plastic Moldings also got a tax abatement for $38,500 in new equipment.
Local attorney Lee McNeely, who was representing Ten Cate Enbi, said that the tax abatements had save dor created 24 jobs.
"The last 10 years have been very good for us," he said.
