From the Shelbyville News:
The town of Morristown and Hanover Township are mulling the idea of a new fire station for the Morristown Volunteer Fire Department.
...
The location of the new fire station would be next to the Morristown Municipal Building, 418 W. Main St., in a plot of land owned by the township.
"We're working on that," said Shirley Shepherdson, Hanover Township trustee. "Right now we're hoping it continues to be a joint venture."
The township earlier this year sold one acre of the land next to the municipal building to Dollar General, who will build a store there.
Shepherdson said some of the money would go toward the fire station. Another part of the township's contribution would be the actual land the station sits on.
The town, for its part, is considering creating a cumulative fund. That would add an additional property tax of 2 cents for every $100 of assessed value for the first year, then the next year 3 cents and the third year on, 5 cents.
The council will likely have to vote on it at their next meeting on June 27 to meet deadlines to impose the tax.
