Elkhart Approves Tax Phase-in for Champagne Metals

From the Elkhart Truth:

Leaders approved a tax break Saturday morning for a manufacturing company that has pledged to add 39 new full-time positions to Elkhart County’s job market.

The Elkhart County Council gave final approval to Champagne Metals for a nine-year tax phase-in that will help the company defray the cost of expansion. The company specializes in producing metal sheets used for gas tanks, recreational vehicle trailers and other industrial equipment.

Champagne Metals plans to set up shop in the Greenfield Industrial Park in York Township, where the company has committed to staying up and running for at least 12 years. The company has four employees and plans to add more workers with total annual salaries equaling $1.78 million.

Champagne Metals estimates that redevelopment will be $4.9 million. The value of the company’s personal property is $5.3 million, including new manufacturing tools, furniture and computer equipment.
