From the Columbus Republic:
The number of agencies that want a part of local tourism dollars is rising.
Four nonprofits — compared with two last year — are requesting that they be given a portion of the roughly $1.3 million that Bartholomew County collects annually through the innkeeper tax, which is assessed on hotel stays of less than 30 days.
This year’s four requests exceed the projected revenues by about $300,000, which means that, like last year, some agencies will get less than they’re seeking.
The newly independent Bartholomew County Visitors Information and Promotion Commission will listen to the agencies’ proposals beginning at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the County Council Chambers at the Government Office Building on Third Street.
