Residents Tell Johnson County "Think Smaller" After Defeating Library Referendum

From the Johnson County Daily News:

A larger Franklin library could be built at the current site, using land the library district already has and saving money.

That was the message from some of the voters who last month turned down a proposed $29.9 million downtown Franklin library. In the future, they want the library district to consider a smaller project, with a lower price tag, and to listen to the vote cast in May.

Nearly 100 people came to a meeting about the future of the county library, including people who voted for and against the proposed downtown library.

Library officials plan to hold meetings at each of the county library district’s four branches this summer with the hope of involving the community in planning for the future.

“We really want this to be a collaborative effort,” said Diane Black, Johnson County Public Library board president.
