From the Shelbyville News:
The Shelbyville Common Council approved several compliance statements related to ongoing tax abatements at Monday's meeting.
Representatives from six companies appeared before the council as part of the requirements of their agreements to report on the company's progress. Most said they have been successful in hiring new workers and are continuing to grow.
"Kroger really knocked this out of the park," Mayor Tom DeBaun said. "Triumph Controls, they're doing very well also."
The Kroger grocery store hired 186 people after receiving tax abatements in 2003 and 2006 for a warehouse, raising its employment from 561 to 747.
New company KN Platech was one of several companies that also appeared before the board.
"We've went from one shift to three shifts," attorney Steve Schrumpf said.
Triumph Controls has hired 39 people since an abatement in 2005 for a building expansion, from 37 to 76.
