Monroe County Community School Corp. Proposes $106 Million Budget

From the Bloomington Herald-Times:

The public will have a chance to comment on, and ask questions about, MCCSC’s proposed 2013 $106 million budget during Tuesday’s school board meeting.

A public hearing on Monroe County Community School Corporation’s 2013 budget, Capital Projects Fund plan and bus replacement plan also takes place Tuesday during a regularly scheduled board meeting.

“It’s really the best time” for the public to ask questions, said Comptroller Tim Thrasher. “That’s what it’s designed for.”
Earlier this month, Thrasher reviewed the budget during a work session.

The district’s overall 2013 tax rate is expected to increase slightly next year but there could be a slight decrease in next year’s referendum tax rate, according to the budget. The 2013 tax rate is advertised at 72.42 cents but Thrasher said he estimates the final tax rate to be 68.51 cents.

The advertised referendum tax rate is advertised at 14.02 cents but during the previous work session Thrasher said he plans to recommend lowering that rate to 12.8 cents.

The final rate will be up to the board.

The final budget will be approved by the board on Oct. 23.

The MCCSC board meeting takes place at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Administration Center, 315 E. North Drive.
